Stephens Deserves Election In 20th
For the last several election cycles, state representative contests in Illinois’ 20th House District have, to state the obvious, been unusual. Several times Democrats have tried to knock off former State Rep. Michael McAuliffe by throwing tons of cash at little known candidates. It’s never worked as the district for decades has continued to elect Republicans.
The 20th not only includes part of northwest Chicago but most of Rosemont and sections of Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Niles.
For the last year, Brad Stephens has served as 20th State Representative having been appointed to the job when McAuliffe retired. Stephens is also mayor of Rosemont. His challenger is Michelle Darbro, a Chicago firefighter, who has made herself scarce on the campaign trail. She, though, is one of the most heavily financed House candidates in Illinois receiving the bulk of her money from the state Democratic Party which is controlled by House Speaker Mike Madigan. She’s spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in television ads demonizing Stephens.
Despite many attempts by the Journal & Topics to speak with Darbro about her candidacy, she has not responded.
We highly recommend Brad Stephens for 20th District State Representative for many reasons. Since 2007 he has served as Mayor of Rosemont and 18 years before that as Rosemont trustee. He is familiar with the way Springfield works and has a solid record of getting things done. One example is his leading role in the development of Impact Field in Rosemont where the Chicago Dogs call home. Another is the building of Rosemont’s entertainment district and infrastructure that links nearby O’Hare Airport with Rosemont and west suburban communities.
We have also found that Stephens, the father of five children, is honorable, focused on how he would like to get things done in Springfield, and transparent. He understands the value of keeping the lines of communication wide open with his constituency whether it be the 4,200 people who reside in Rosemont or the 100,000 plus people who call the 20th District home.
The choice is easy in the 20th District. Elect Brad Stephens for State Representative.
Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 19 in Cook County.
